I don't remember ever encountering it before either.

In high school I had a real hard crush on a guy named Philip. Thanks for bringing back such painful memories. Why don't you give me a nice papercut and pour some lemon juice on it while you're at it.

Huh.

Weird, fillip seems only mildly unusual to me. I think I might read an author or two who uses the word moderately often, and that might be why, but I can't place it.

A dozen fossilized words (http://mentalfloss.com/article/51150/12-old-words-survived-getting-fossilized-idioms) that you might or might not have known the meaning of.

Interesting.

Cool link. In the case of "fro", in the King James Bible the word "froward" is used to describe Israel as backsliding or going back to the incorrect traditions of the past. I've never heard it said anywhere else.

New word! Insouciance.
-
Bah! That word's older than I am.
I learned a new word: Twerk. It's not even Scrabble-legal.
-
Let's not let twerk become a Scrabble-legal word.
-
But the "w" and the "k"; stuff those on a double word score, and you're doing ok.

...stuff those on a double word score....
>_< I get it! I get it!
