Derivational morphology (a game)
« on: February 04, 2005, 11:37:42 AM »
If you haven't noticed, Ruth and I are fond of calling each other "nerd." However, with such frequent use, the word begins to lose its force. To remedy this, we've started applying all kinds of suffixes to expand the word and give it more shades of meaning.

So we started with:
nerd
nerdy
nerdiness

And we've so far created:
nerdly
nerdliness
nerdity
nerditude
nerditudinous
nerdulent
nerdulence

And probably some others that I can't remember offhand. I started wondering what other words this sort of process could easily be applied to. Theoretically, you could do it to just about any word, but which ones work the best? So I decided to make a game out of it. Have at it!

For some reason this evokes an image of Jon Boy and Ruth's firstborn sitting alone in a shopping cart.
