Because sometimes it's not a good time
« on: December 05, 2007, 05:54:03 PM »
Earlier today, in an email from a supposedly educated professional, a whole slew of plurals-with-unnecessary-apostrophes.

ack!

And it's often NOT "and I." Sometimes it's "and me."  >.<

Feel free to add recent (or not so) incidents of your own.

"Educated" doesn't really mean "excellent speller" or anything. But I do feel your pain. There's a thread on Hatrack right now with an incorrect "and I" in the title that made me mentally yell "and ME!"

Well, that's hardly the only example of why I put "educated" in quotes regarding that particular individual. ;)

But you're right; my very well-educated and extremely intelligent father kills kittens regularly. :D

That one always makes me laugh. I always wonder where, exactly, are they going to tow the line to? It kind of makes the phrase mean the opposite of what they meant.

Exactly!

Another similarly confounding mis-cliche is "baited breath" (are we hunting wabbits?)

My department director sent out an e-mail yesterday referring to our upcoming Christmas party as a "chin-dig."
