I was reading garage sale listings to decide whether it would be worth it to go out tomorrow, and I came across one that said they were selling a "kitchen table and cheers."

What dialect is that? Is it Utahn? I don't think I've ever noticed that particular vowel shift here.

Interesting. I think I remember hearing about vowel laxing before /r/ as a feature of Utah English, but not vowel laxing and lowering. Maybe you should pass that along to Wendy Baker at BYU.

You know in that "Firefly" episode when the Blue Hands Men have that little doodah that makes capillaries dissolve? I'm not sure if that usage makes me feel that way or want to do that to the culprit.

The former. The furniture was only mildly ugly, IMO.
