The other day I got an email from an old friend I'd pretty much lost touch with. At the end of the message, he said "Anyhoot, that's what I think" (or something like that. The important word here is "anyhoot", which was used.
I noticed it and found it strange, but didn't think much of it.
Just now I was over on Hatrack, and in the latest sex thread (http://www.hatrack.com/cgi-bin/ubbmain/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=036741) Altáriël of Dorthonion said "Anyhoot, I'll follow your advice Kwea, thank you."
Is this a new thing, or has it existed for some time without cropping up on my radar?

Never heard of it before, but Google brings up 7300 hits. So I guess it's not all that new . . . around since at least late 2002 (http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:k0vCRbLn9iMJ:itsuji.net/blog/mtarchive/2002_09.php+anyhoot&hl=en).
Who knew?

I've seen anyhoo, but not anyhoot. Are these people, perhaps, owls?

I've never heard it before. Alert the dictionary companies! We've got a new word on our hand!

The word anyhoo really bugs me.
