I love the semi-colon; it is my favorite punctuation mark.

The ellipses comes in a close second, however.

Here's how it should go:

When using a semicolon in a smiley to express intention in written communications, it is sometimes necessary to clarify with a :) to let them know you are being lighthearted and not coming on to them.

That's hilarious, but it neglects to mention that you do use semicolons with certain conjunctions.
